Troll premiered on Netflix on Dec. 1, and it has been a major success for the streaming giant. In its first week on Netflix, the film managed to bring in 75.86 million global hours, taking the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s non-English top 10 movie list. Of course, now everyone’s wondering about a Troll 2. Sadly, Netflix has not announced whether there will be a sequel, but this isn’t a cause for concern at the moment since the movie just recently came out. We’ll definitely continue to update you on the renewal status.
Troll is a Norwegian movie directed by Roar Uthaug from a screenplay written by Espen Aukan. It’s about a group of people who band together to stop an ancient troll from destroying everything in its path, including the capital of Norway. The cast includes a bunch of talented Norwegian actors like Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, Gard B. Eidsvold, Anneke von der Lippe, and many others.
You might be wondering why the title of this movie sounds familiar. Well, there’s another Norwegian movie called Trollhunter, and you could’ve watched that movie in the past. But is Troll a sequel to Trollhunter, or is it its own movie? Find out below.
Nope. Troll is not a sequel to Trollhunter. You might’ve thought they were connected because they’re both Norwegian films and their titles are similar, but Troll is not related to Trollhunter in any way. If you’ve watched both movies, you’d immediately recognize how different they are by the way they’re filmed. Trollhunter was shot in mockumentary style, while Troll takes on a more serious tone.
No. The monster film isn’t related to the 1986 film of the same name, either. First, the 1986 movie is American. Secondly, both movies are of different genres. Thirdly, the story plots for both films are entirely different and do not connect in any way.
To summarize, Troll is an original movie, not a sequel or connected to another movie.
