Jessica Simpson appeared on the Home Shopping Network to shill her Jessica Simpson Collection on Thursday night. She was apparently on air for a few hours, but at one point, she really seemed to have trouble standing up straight and she just looked and sounded like she was pretty hammered. As I said on Friday, it’s possible that Jessica truly was boozy, just because it’s pretty well-documented that Jessica enjoys her alcoholic beverages. I also left open the possibility that this was just normal, ditzy, mush-mouthed Jessica, and maybe her weird behavior was part of the overall weirdness of having to vamp without a script on HSN for a few hours. Well, late Friday, TMZ got some kind of “tip” from a “source” who said that Jessica was NOT drunk. Sure.
Jessica Simpson wasn’t drunk during her HSN debut and you’d know that if you watched the entire two-hour segment … which would be more painful than eating glass. Sources close to Jessica say the clip circulating of her giggling and slurring is just part of her personality that surfaces from time to time. They say for the lion’s share of her time on the show, she was lucid and polished.
They say 2 hours without a script creates inevitable less than perfect moments. An HSN source also says she was not drunk. Fact is … HSN is singing her praises, saying Jessica really knows how to drive a sale.
The president of HSN, Bill Brand, also came out and said on the record (to Entertainment Tonight): “Of course she wasn’t drunk…she’s a top-notch professional. She was here. She was thrilled to be here. I can tell you our team loved working with her.” Is it possible that Jessica simply sounds and acts bombed when she’s stone-cold sober? Sure. As some of you theorized on Friday, it’s also possible that there’s something other than alcohol involved, like pills. I don’t know enough about that stuff to make an armchair diagnosis, and quite honestly, I don’t feel strongly about it either way. I personally think Jessica usually seems kind of drunk and out-of-out even when she’s sober, so it could be anything.
