Marla Adams, famed for playing Dina Abbott Mergeron on The Young And The Restless, has tragically passed away.
It’s always somewhat comforting to know that you can watch the work of an actress back, again and again to your heart’s content, once they’ve passed on. All the same, it doesn’t prevent their passing from being anything less than heartbreaking. For fans of the American soap opera The Young And The Restless, there has been plenty of heartbreak. The show has been on the air since 1973, and since then, some of its beloved cast has departed. Recently, fans have been mourning the loss of one of its shining celebrity stars, Marla Adams.
The Young And The Restless icon and TV actress Marla Adams has passed away
It has sadly been announced that Marla Adams, the American TV actress, died on Thursday, April 25th 2024, at the age of 85. She is survived by her son and daughter, Gunnar Garat and Pam Oates, respectively.
Audiences will best know Marla Adams as Dina Abbott Mergeron on The Young And The Restless, a significant character who first debuted on the CBS series in 1983.
She started in over 200 episodes of the series, reprising the role throughout the years and giving her final appearance in an episode airing in 2020. In the show, Dina died after bidding a final farewell to her children Traci (played by Beth Maitland), Jack (Peter Bergman), and Ashley (Eileen Davidson). She was then ushered into heaven by her first husband, John (Jerry Douglas). Her time on the show, although on and off, spanned a staggering 37 years.
Across her career, Marla became well known for a range of other parts too. These included roles as Belle Clemens on The Secret Storm, Beth Logan on The Bold And The Beautiful, Mildred Deal on General Hospital, and Claire McIntyre on Days Of Our Lives.
She leaves behind an admirable legacy, boasting so many TV credits in addition to a Daytime Emmy Award she won in 2021, following another nomination three years prior.
Tributes continue to pour in
Although the cause of death wasn’t clarified, a statement was shared by executive producer and head writer of The Young And The Restless, Josh Griffith.
“On behalf of the entire company of The Young And The Restless,” he began, “we send our deepest sympathies to Marla’s family. We’re so grateful and in awe of Marla’s incredible performance as Dina Mergeron as both Marla and Dina made an unforgettable mark on Y&R.”
Tributes have since emerged, both honoring and mourning her.
“Sad to hear we lost Marla Adams this week, the Emmy-winning actress of The Young And The Restless,” one has tweeted. “She was always so joyful to be around. RIP sweet lady.”
“Very saddened to hear about Marla,” another wrote, “some very sweet moments I shared with her through the years.”
The Young And The Restless actress Kate Linder (she played Esther Valentine), tweeted how much she’ll miss her: “My heart and love go out to the friends and family of Marla Adams. It has been an honor to have known and worked with her for many years! She will be sorely missed.”
