Meghan Markle described Sophie Trudeau as a ‘dear friend’

When speaking on her podcast Archetypes in 2022, Meghan gushed over her connection with Sophie, the former wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who she separated from last year.

“We swam, we drank wine, we splashed in the water,” Meghan remembered of a time the pair had shared with their respective families.

“Then threw some pool floats in. This was the other version of us. Both with wild curly hair and swimsuits and loose linen and huge belly laughs. Big cuddles with our little ones and quiet whispers of girl talk on the terrace, giddy, like absolute school girls.

“We were just having so much fun,” she added.

Most notably, she regarded the former first lady as a “dear friend”.

One she adores, who had supported her through her pregnancy with “encouragement”.

Sophie Trudeau claims she ‘hasn’t spent much time’ with Meghan

“I’ve gone to her over the years for advice,” Meghan elaborated on the podcast. And yet, Sophie recently sat for an interview with The Times and painted a rather different picture of the pair’s relationship.

“I know her,” she said of Meghan, “but we haven’t spent much time together.”

Apparently having little else to say about her and Meghan’s relationship, in stark contrast to Meghan’s praise on her previous podcast, conversation turned to Sophie sharing her sympathy for Meghan’s sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. She admitted her “heart just sunk” after learning of the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Readers may be wondering why the two have such conflicting accounts of their alleged friendship… They were both introduced through a mutual friend named Jessica Mulroney, whom Meghan met when working on Suits. Jessica became Meghan’s royal stylist and even attended her wedding.

However, the pair are no longer friends. The New York Post reported that their friendship was believed to have taken a hit when Jessica was accused of “white privilege” at the time of the Black Lives Matter movement achieving prominence.
