I was going to rent The Batman whenever it came out on Vudu, but HBO aired the movie this past weekend, so I ended up watching it and enjoying it! Robert Pattinson is pretty good in the role and I simply adore Millennial Emo Bruce Wayne. Now, is the movie perfect? No. Far from it. While I appreciated the emphasis on “Detective Batman” and the fact that he was actually trying to solve crimes and put the pieces together, I did feel like we actually needed some (gasp) Bruce Wayne backstory and some additional characterization for Emo Bruce. I also think it’s kind of absurd that Batman, in all of his fancy tactical gear and Bat-Kevlar, just wanders in and out of crime scenes and active hostage situations, messing up the chain of custody and screwing up actual investigations. Anyway, we’re getting a sequel, Bat-bitches!
“The Batman” is getting a sequel, with Robert Pattinson set to return as Gotham’s fiercest defender.
Warner Bros. revealed its plans for another Caped Crusader story during its Tuesday evening presentation at CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theater owners. “The Batman” director Matt Reeves was on hand to announce the news that he will write and direct the follow-up, but he did not provide any details about what the movie will entail.
“The Batman,” a gritty three-hour superhero adventure, debuted on the big screen in March, kicking off with $134 million domestically. Those ticket sales still rank as the biggest opening weekend of 2022, as well as only the second pandemic-era movie to cross the $100 million mark in a single weekend following “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” With $759 million to date at the global box office, “The Batman” is currently the highest grossing movie of the year.
I think it’s fine? I’ve always been okay with the Batman franchise out of all of the comic book franchises. The Batman made lots of money, of course they were going to get a sequel. Robert Pattinson seems to enjoy the character and he really went for it, and he’s good in the role, honestly. Plus, we’ll get more wonderful Pattinson interviews where he calls Bruce a dude who has had a complete nervous breakdown and someone who has created an intricate Bat-persona to avoid self-harm. I’m truly looking forward to it.
